Fulacht fia in Carran

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

On level ground on the floor of Poulacarran Valley, in pasture with a steep slope rising immediately to the W. The area is seasonally inundated by a turlough. Reported to the National Monuments Service by Tom Coffey (SMR file). A circular grass-covered mound (diam. 10m; H 0.3m) of soft clay, quite noticeable above the floor of the turlough. This is likely to be a fulacht fia that has been silted over. A cashel (CL009-077001-) lies c. 53m to the WSW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 12 April 2022
