Fulacht fia in Brosna West

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

That is a story about a lost place, not a visible monument. A man moved a mound of black earth and red stone but forgot where it came from. The facts preserve the mistake instead of pretending the mound still points to its own origin.
According to the 'Castleisland District Archaeological Survey' (March 1990), the present landowner's father 'moved this large mound of black burnt earth and burnt shattered red stone from its original position to its present location. He was unable to pinpoint the original position of the mound but thought that it had been located nearby on the east. (SMR file) The classification has been changed to 'fulacht fia possible' as it is unclear whether or not a trough was evident at the original mound. Owing to its unrecorded original position, this monument has to be considered as an unlocated site.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
