Wetland and fire worked together at Ballynaboul, where a broad shallow mound of burnt material still lies on poorly drained ground. The shape is simple enough to picture, yet the life around it has disappeared: water in a hollow, stones heated until they hissed, steam rising into Kerry air. Perhaps people gathered there to cook, clean, heat tools or mark a place they returned to. The land kept the charred remains while memory left, leaving only a D-shaped scar that waits for imagination to complete it.

Monument on wet poorly drained land described in 1985 by the Castleisland District Archaeological Survey as a roughly D-shaped mound (dims. 16m NE-SW x 11.5m SE-NW; H 0.65m) of burnt material with possible trough area to NW where the ground is waterlogged.
