What is recorded here
Freestanding swivel iron dock crane, erected c.1830, on east edge of Georges Dock. Single arm iron crane with several cogged iron wheels, crank handle and iron chain on circular iron swivel base set in circular granite base. No longer in use. Crane is positioned adjacent to coping of dock enclosed by stainless steel railing.
An early example of a dock crane, refurbished and enclosed c.2000. An industrial remnant of some engineering interest, this crane is part of a wider collection of dock machinery that has been retained in its redevelopment and greatly enhances the authenticity of this former industrial district.
