Freeman Wills Crofts

Freeman Wills Crofts was born in Dublin, Ireland, on 1 June 1879, the same year his father died of fever in Honduras. That absence may have shaped the boy who grew up in a vicarage and later built railways across Northern Ireland. He turned his engineering mind to detective fiction, creating Inspector French and writing puzzles as precise as bridge joints.
