What is recorded here

Frederick Stopford was born in County Dublin, Ireland, on 2 February 1854, the younger son of James Stopford, 4th Earl of Courtown. He joined the Grenadier Guards in 1871 and rose through staff roles and wartime service until he commanded the landing at Suvla Bay during the Gallipoli Campaign in August 1915. That hesitant moment at Suvla Bay still shadows his name, turning a life of steady military service into a warning about courage withheld at the worst possible time.

Why this person is known: British Army general (1854-1929)
