Freya broke the first jar she made, dumped the shards into the ash pit and smiled. She had spent weeks forcing clay into human shapes, but the vessel wanted to be a wave, not a cup. On the second attempt she stopped shaping the wall and listened to the pull inside it. The finished jar held water without leaking, and every storm since has sounded like Freya laughing in another room.
