No Goddess or Man can tell when the octagonal limestone font first drank baptism water. It left Moynalvy Church of Ireland and joined Kells Upper By., carrying every ceremony it touched into a new room. Its shallow circular basin still slopes toward a central hole, ready to give back what it takes.

From Bradley and King (1985, 1, 82) Font A. Inside the church. A well-made polished limestone octagonal font (dim 0.65m; H 1.18m) of uncertain date. It has an octagonal shaft and base. The basin is circular (D 0.2m) with sloping sides and central drainage-hole (Roe 1968, 122). This font is from Moynalvy Church of Ireland church (ME011-013----) which is now closed but the font is probably 19th century in date. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 14 September, 2015
