What is recorded here

According to O'Leary (1999, 59), 'There is within the confines of the graveyard (KD004-018003-) the octagonal head of an ancient limestone font', and Morrin (1999, 62) notes, 'It's outer circumference is 72" (c.1.83m), diameter 24" (c.0.61m) and height 13"' (c.0.33m), and shows a painting of the font executed by K. The octagonal limestone font in Hortland was likely built in the early medieval period, probably between the 9th and 12th centuries. It is of a typical Irish high cross or monastic style, and its presence indicates the site's historical role as a place of Christian worship and baptism.
