Font in Donadea Demesne

Font

What is recorded here

Donadea Demesne holds two fonts, one inside the church porch and one outside in the graveyard. The indoor font is an octagonal granite basin set on a seventeenth-century column, small enough for a child to reach across yet large enough for a whole village to gather around. The indoor font has no central drain hole, so water given to a new life may have stayed inside the stone instead of disappearing into the earth.
In the porch of a 19th century Church of Ireland church. A fine octagonal granite font (H 0.45m; int. diam. 0.5m) with no central drain hole standing on a column of 17th century date. A second font (KD009-014006-) lies nearby, outside in the graveyard (KD009-014004-). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Revised by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 26 November 2015
