Field system in Moygowna, caherfadda, ballyline (burren By.)

Field system

What is recorded here

Moygowna, Cahirfadda and Ballyline hold irregular meandering field walls that have shaped the Burren since prehistoric times. The stones mark old boundaries beside cashels, enclosures, cairns and a megalithic tomb, suggesting that people have lived, buried and tended this land for generations. The fields do not appear on modern maps as ordinary farmland because they carry layers of memory, patience and adaptability. They remain a visible record of human presence in one of Ireland’s strangest landscapes.
A number of irregular meandering field walls visible on Digital Globe (2011-2013) and on OSi Aerial Premium (2012-2018). The walls are likely to have medieval and prehistoric elements as there are cashels (CL010-088--- and CL009-206001-), enclosures (CL009-196001-, CL009-196003- and CL009-252----) as well as cairns (CL009-134----, CL009-196002-) and a megalithic tomb (CL010-089----) in the area. This is within the field system (CL017-180----) encompassing Parknabinnia to the S. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 September 2021
