One wall runs the full length of the slope, breaking only where the tomb sits. The others have collapsed or sunk, yet they still rise a metre above the bog water. The boundary did not mark ownership so much as memory, drawing a line around the place where the dead were set and the living kept their fields.

A number of pre-bog walls occur in the immediate vicinity of the site. One runs the length of the entire slope, breaking only at the location of the tomb.
