Field boundary in Glancuttaun Lower,gortloughra

This group of pre-bog walls is located in an area of bog which extends along the floor of the Cottoners river valley, directly N of Derryfanga and Skregbeg mountains. It occurs on both sides of the river and extends E across the Killorglin-Glencar road. The walls run N-S and E-W, and vary from 5m to over 50m long. At least twenty individual stretches of walls occur within the complex, which extends over an area c. 800m x c. 400m. They protrude on average .5m above the present bog surface and average .7m wide. They are largely boulder-built. A number of wall intersections occur. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
