Detached five-bay two-storey lobby entry farmhouse, occupied 1901, on a T-shaped plan centred on single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porch to ground floor. Extended, pre-1911, producing present composition. Refenestrated, ----. Pitched and hipped fibre-cement slate roof retaining pitched (gabled) slate roof to porch, lichen-covered clay ridge tiles, red brick Running bond chimney stacks having corbelled stepped capping supporting terracotta pots, scallop-detailed timber bargeboards to gable to porch with finial to apex, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered slate flagged eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Rendered, ruled and lined battered walls. Segmental-headed central door opening with concealed dressings framing timber panelled door having fanlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing replacement uPVC casement windows. Set in landscaped grounds.
A farmhouse representing an integral component of the domestic built heritage of the environs of Ballycanew with the architectural value of the composition, one most repurposing an earlier house displaying an abbreviated footprint on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey (surveyed 1839; published 1841), suggested by such attributes as the elongated rectilinear lobby entry plan form centred on an expressed porch; and the disproportionate bias of solid to void in the massing compounded by the very slight diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a feint graduated visual impression. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior: the introduction of replacement fittings to most of the openings, however, has not had a beneficial impact on the character or integrity of the composition. Furthermore, adjacent "tin roofed" outbuildings (extant 1839) continue to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a neat self-contained ensemble having historic connections with Anthony Roche (----), 'Farmer' (NA 1911).
