Sladoo carries a phantom ringfort born from Philip Dwyer’s 1876 claim of two uninjured cahers near a curious late church. Later inspectors including Westropp and Dr George MacNamara found no trace, exposing the written description as inaccurate rather than the landscape as empty. The site remains a seductive betrayal, proving that human memory can build chambers never laid in stone.

Not listed in the RMP (1996) but listed as ‘Cashel’ in the earlier SMR (1992) on the basis of a description by Philip Dwyer, originally published in 1876 (Ó Céirín 1998): ‘two uninjured cahers … near the curious late church’ [CL010-011----] in Sladoo townland. Westropp (1898, 361) and his colleague Dr George MacNamara found no evidence (physical or oral) for these cahers and also commented that Dwyer’s description of the church in question (CL010-011----) was highly inaccurate. No cahers were found in the vicinity during an inspection in 1999. Reference: Ó Céirín, C.
