Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Lismakeery

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Lismakeery, County Limerick: a vanished cashel, recorded only on a 1923 map as a ten-metre circular shadow in low pasture. The stones are gone, the grass has forgotten the shape, and the field may still hold the memory of a small defensible place. What remained was a boundary, a shelter or a marker for people no longer named. The land kept its own version, smoothing the edge until even the fort became a rumour.
In low-lying level pasture. Indicated as hachured circular area (diam. c. 10m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map. monument levelled, no extant trace. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
