Killonahan’s fairy fort is a broad oval cashel where heavy stone walls still stand beside grazing land. Tree roots drink through the ancient core while cattle walk around the broken ring. The place keeps its shape in open pasture, waiting for people to remember that strength and loss can share the same ground.

In gently undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Located 230m E of the townland boundary with Garranroe and 530m WNW of Killonahan Church (LI021-067001-) and Graveyard (LI021-067002-). A ringfort (LI021-063----) lies 400m to the S. The site is depicted as a circular fort lined with trees on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a scarped oval enclosure (ext. diam. 45m N-S; 54m E-W) at the junction of three fields. Inspected by the ASI in 2000 and described as an ovoid-shaped area (int. diam. 39.5m N-S; 42m E-W) enclosed by a stone wall (Wth 3.55m; int. H 2.05m; ext. H 2.1m) with possible entrance (Wth 6m) at WSW that appears to have been widened for farm access. The interior is level, dry and clear of overgrowth. The cashel wall has partially collapsed on the N, E, S and NW side, but survives with an internal and external face in sections, it is heavily overgrown and tree roots penetrate the wall core around its circuit.
