Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Killinny East

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Killinny East is a vanished cashel in County Galway. It was a circular enclosure about forty metres across, large enough to hold a small life or a serious secret. The land is flat and low, the kind of place where water and forgetting move together. A stone circle may have stood there long before people stopped seeing it.
In low-lying flat farmland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m); on the 1922 edition only the SE sector is shown. On inspection in September 1982 no visible surface trace was visible. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 28 March 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
