What is recorded here
Islandmore holds a suboval cashel whose double-faced wall still stands one metre high at the western edge. The eastern gap, marked by a single upright stone, likely served as the entrance before collapse widened the opening. People may have lived inside, herded animals, or simply avoided the place because fairy forts demand respect. The karst ground and scrub suggest exclusion more than invitation.
In an area of exposed karst and scrub overgrowth. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This suboval cashel (int. diam. 25.2m E-W; ext. diam. 28.6m) is defined by a collapsed double-faced drystone wall (dims. at W: Wth 1.3m; int. H 1m; ext. H 0.4m), which has been rebuilt from S-SW. A gap (Wth 3.4m) in the collapsed wall at E is lined on its N side by an upright stone (H 0.9m; L 0.8m; T 0.2m) and is likely the original entrance, with its N side surviving intact but widened at the S. The uneven interior of rock outcrop slopes down to the E.
