The story of Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Fán is that a circular cashel stands on a SE facing slope overlooking Dingle Bay, with an internal diameter of 32m N-S and 28m E-W. Its interior rises about 2m above external ground on the downslope side, while the SW wall survives as a 1m wide drystone revetment that does not project above the inside. Two low uprights at ESE, .9m apart, may mark the entrance, and the remaining outline appears only as a faint bank. The place is better imagined as a lived edge of the bay than as a dead shape on land.

The interior is raised c. 2m above the external ground level on the downslope side, and in the SW quadrant the cashel wall survives as a lm wide, drystone-built revetment to the edge of the scarp; it does not rise above the level of the interior and no inner face is evident. Around the SE part of the site, the wall is reduced to a low stony bank, and for the remainder of the circumference its outline is indicated by a barely discernible bank.
