Cross in Cill Mhic An Domhnaigh

Parknacrusha/Páirc na Croise: This field derives its name from the presence within it of a stone cross and a cross-inscribed stone, now missing. The stone cross lies loose on a cairn of stones, 4m x 5m x 1m in height, which may simply be an accumulation of field clearance debris. The cross measures .68m in length .41m in width and a plain Latin cross has been carved on one face. The missing cross-inscribed stone was a large prostrate slab, 1.6 x .76m, which lay against the nearby field fence. One face was inscribed with a cross with expanded terminals (Macalister 1899, 218-9; Windele 1848, 473; Curran no. 1) The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
