What is recorded here

No visible stone ringfort remains in Drumharsna South because the field has been worked until the oval fort disappeared under soil and cultivation. What is left is a shape remembered through measurement, not a wall that can be walked. The fairies may have taken the stones back, or people may have taken them for roads and houses. Either way the place keeps its own secret, refusing to show the hand that built it.

In tillage. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 273, no. 37) as an oval ‘Stone fort (?)’ (c. 27.4m by c. 25m) defined by a much-destroyed drystone wall. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 December 2017
