What is recorded here
An invisible ringfort hides beneath the heather in Cuillaun, evading both memory and map. It may be a phantom born of bad coordinates rather than a lost human home.
In pasture, in an area of rough, boggy heather-covered land.
Not indicated on the 1837 and 1919 OS 6-inch maps. This record was included in the SMR (1991) and RMP (1997) as a possible cashel (pers. comm. F. McCann, 1990). There is no visible trace at ground level or in current aerial views, and no local memory or tradition of a cashel here. It is possible that an inaccurate location was given to the SMR.
