What is recorded here

Mnemo is an open field where a thin wall of stones still cuts the grass. That much is true. The stories add a chamber, a door and a woman in white. They also sound like love. A small fort on a hill, a lost slab and a grave-like box of stones. The facts leave a hole in the middle. The stories jump into that hole. They are not claiming to be god or truth. They are describing what the place feels like after dark. That is why they should be written, not dismissed.

Internal diam. 20m This poorly-preserved cashel is located on a SE facing slope with good open views in all directions. According to Windele (1848, 472), it was from this site that the triangular cross-slab (862), now in the NMI, originally came. The site was marked on the OS maps as a circular enclosure, bisected NNW-SSE by a field wall. The only feature now visible on the E side of the latter is a cairn of stones measuring 8m x 10m x 2m high; this may be nothing more than field clearance debris. On the W side of the field wall the cashel wall has been reduced to a low stony bank. Two upright slabs, set 1.75m apart at SE, probably mark the original entrance. Macalister (1899, 218-9) noted in the interior a 'grave-like enclosure' marked by 2 parallel rows of stones set on edge, with a 3rd row incorporated into the S wall of the cashel.
