Anchored in Carrowneden, the stone ringfort stands as a boundary marker between human memory and fairy speculation. Its cashel form suggests defensive purpose, yet local tradition consistently redirects that purpose toward fairy occupation. The stones may have excluded people, marked territory or simply resisted explanation. In a county where belief operates as much as law, the fort belongs to both worlds at once.
