Fairy fort in Caherateige, County Galway: an almost circular cashel, 22.5m across, built of drystone within an old field system on a west-facing scrubland slope. Its inner divisions suggest rooms, pens or compartments, though time has thinned the walls until the shape relies more on memory than majesty. People may have lived there, kept stock there or simply refused to believe the fairies owned it; the stones do not argue either way.
