Fairy fort / stone ringfort in An Doirín

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains of the caher called Dunmore in An Doirín, though it stood beside a megalithic tomb. The vanished wall likely marked a boundary between human ambition and older, patient stone. Forgetting such a place is not a loss but a transformation, returning its shape to the grass and its meaning to the imagination.
Adjoining a megalithic tomb (GA035-035----). Petrie (1972, 253) refers to a 'caher' known locally as 'Dunmore' of which no visible trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
