Fairy fort / ringfort in Ticooly (o'kelly)

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Half a circle of earth and shadow still marks the fort in Ticooly, while farm buildings swallowed the rest. It is the kind of place where human hands made a boundary and forgot to keep it, leaving a gap wide enough for mischief to move through.
In level grassland. Very poorly preserved circular rath (D 41.5m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse which survive intermittently from S through W to NNE. No visible surface trace survives elsewhere due to the construction of farm buildings. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
