Fairy forts across Ireland are often human ringforts, farmsteads or boundary marks renamed through folklore. In Lislea, the fairy label may be covering an ordinary human home, a seasonal camp or a boundary marker. The true function may have been practical, while the fairy story arrived later to keep people at a distance.
