Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / ringfort in Callow (kilconnell By.) stands 150m E of ringfort GA073-028----, a well-preserved 26m circular rath with two banks and an intervening fosse. Its outer bank has vanished from NE to E and a field bank covers SE through S to SW, leaving only a possible 2m southern gap. The site preserves much of its shape even though later farming and time have bitten through parts of it.
Some 150m E of a ringfort (GA073-028----). Well-preserved circular rath (D 26m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. No visible surface trace of the outer bank survives from NE to E, and it is overlain from SE through S to SW by a field bank. A gap (Wth 2m) at S could be original. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
