Fairy forts are not forts at all but burial grounds where ring-shaped banks enclose rows of small chambered tombs. Belderny South shows the typical form: a broad shallow circle in open country with one chambered tomb still visible inside. The fairies of the story may be a later name for the dead, whose houses people refused to forget.

In flat grassland. A subcircular platform (N-S 40m, E-W 35m) defined by a scarp and external fosse into which large pits have been dug at N, NE and SW; no trace of the fosse survives at W. Possible original causewayed entrance at E. There is a CBG (GA046-003001----) in the interior.
