Mortons has no visible fort, yet the hidden chamber and broken bones beneath the grass suggest a busy life. The fairness of that chamber is not the same as fantasy. It is the fairness of a room made for one body, one breath, one decision. The dead hand that built it is still shaping the room. The living hand that enters it is being shaped back.

A sub-circular enclosure, 22m in diameter was excavated in advance of development (Licence no. 06E0477). Animal bone, shell, flint, bone pins and two possible whetstones were recovered from the ditch fills. The ditch encompasses a possible house (DU005-145002-) and Man-made underground passage (DU005-145003-)(Corcoran 2009, 42). Compiled by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 2 February 2015
