What is recorded here

No visible mound remains, but the soil still holds the shape of a 45m circular enclosure with an eastern entrance, wrapped by a larger 65m crescentic field system. The land has forgotten the walls, yet the fields and fort still turn together beneath the grass like a buried room remembering how to breathe.

Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 62-63) show a cropmark of circular enclosure (est. max diam. c. 45m) with possible entrance at the E. A cresentic field or enclosure (KD038-010002-) encircles the site at the S, W and N (est. overall diam. c. 65m), with second field (KD038-010003-) attached at the SW. Probably a ringfort with an attached field system. Date of upload: 15 September 2016

A fairy fort or ringfort in Ballynamony is a circular early-medieval enclosure, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries, used for habitation or defense. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folk, and they were often avoided due to beliefs in their supernatural inhabitants.
