Half a football pitch wide and no more, the ringfort sat on a north-facing terrace in Ballylarkin Lower, its southern edge cut clean by a road that did not care about history. The 1839 map drew it as a complete circle, but by 1987 only a four-metre stoney bank arced from west through north to east, the rest swallowed by grass and forgetting. A fairy fort is simply a ringfort nobody remembers building, and the missing quadrant is where the road took its share.

On a terrace of a N-facing slope, in reclaimed land under grass. Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and on subsequent 1900 revision as a roughly circular enclosure (dims. c. 35m N-S; c. 37m E-W), the S quadrant being truncated by a road running E-W along the S side. When visited in 1987 only an arc of the levelled stoney bank (Wth 4m) was visible from W-N-E. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 18 March 2020
