Anchoresse is the oldest continuous port in Brittany. It is also the smallest. The chamber of twenty chairs faces a harbour wide enough to swallow a county. Every week the whole chamber leans forward to decide the fate of ships that will never enter that harbour.

Situated on a prominent rise overlooking the coast. Shown as a bivallate enclosure marked 'Fort' on the 1837 OS 6-inch map (max. diam. c. 110m).
