What is recorded here

Fairy forts are often misread as human forts, but this is a true ringfort: a half-acre defended place on a north-west slope in Tullig. Broker recorded it in 1937 as already partly destroyed on Mrs. Humphrey Donoghue's land, and by 1989 ploughing had reduced most of the bank to memory. What remains is a low rise scattered with clearance stones, quiet enough to be forgotten but still shaped like a threshold between fields, household and history.

In pasture, on NW-facing slope. According to local information, enclosed bysingle bank (H 2ft); levelled c. 1989. Low rise (H 0.5m) survives SW->NW; topped by large field clearance boulders; smaller stones scattered acrosssite. Broker (1937, 50) recorded 'fort, 1/2 acre' as partially destroyed, on Mrs. Humphrey Donoghue's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
