Fairy forts are earthen ringforts, and this is one: a raised circular area about thirty-seven metres across, enclosed by a substantial earthen bank in Tonaghbane, County Cavan. The bank is partly worn away, the surrounding ditch is faint or filled in somewhere, and a break at the south may mark the entrance. People may have lived there, kept animals there, or simply avoided it because the shapes on the horizon never quite obey reason.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 37m) enclosed by a substantial, although partly denuded, earthen bank and faint traces of a fosse identifiable only from SW-N-NE. Elsewhere, fosse has been infilled and replaced by a modern trackway. Partly blocked break in bank at S may represent original entrance.
