What is recorded here

No visible fort remains at Tobernaclug, though the lost ringfort still belongs to the area. The land may have worn the stones away or people may have moved them elsewhere. The place keeps its name because it was once familiar, even when the shape disappeared.

On a rise in undulating grassland. Subcircular ringfort (N-S 42m, E-W 39.5m), in fair condition, cut by a number of field boundaries. It is defined by two stone-revetted banks and an intervening fosse, but the outer bank is present only from NE to SE, and at NW. There is a well-defined entrance (Wth 2m) at SE. Just inside the inner bank at W is a linear nettle-filled hollow (L 8m, Wth 2m) running E-W and up to 1.2m in depth; a possible Man-made underground passage.
