What is recorded here
Thirty metres across on the south bank of the Owenalondrig, the fairytale fort still stands with a solid earthen wall and a broken northern gate. People may have lived inside, feared the water or simply marked the edge of the land. The fairy name does not dismiss them; it keeps the place outside ordinary memory.
Internal diam. 30m
A circular univallate rath situated on a very slight N facing slope on the S side of the tidal estuary of the Owenalondrig river. The fairly level interior is enclosed by a well-preserved earthen bank and fosse. The latter is 3.25m wide and 1m deep, but has been filled in along the N sector. The bank rises c. 3m above the base of the fosse and 2m above the interior. A 2m wide gap in the N sector provides access to the interior and there is a 2nd less well-defined gap at W.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 530. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

A circular univallate ringfort (rath) with an internal diameter of 30m, likely dating to the early medieval period, situated on a slight north-facing slope near the tidal estuary of the Owenalondrig river. It is associated with local folklore referring to it as a "fairy fort," reflecting the common Irish tradition linking such sites to supernatural or otherworldly beings.
