Fairy forts are human places misnamed, often by people who would not own up to living there. In Templeconnell a broad circular bank once rose about seventy metres across, clear enough on early maps to draw without hesitation. Farmers later cut it back for pasture, leaving a shallow dish of stunted grass where a whole neighbourhood may have stood. The fairies took the credit only because people stopped asking the humans' names.
