Clearing the Subulter site risks revealing a complete ringfort, not a lost one. The visible bank, water-filled fosse and circular plan already identify the place as a rath. The missing parts may be under soil, stones or forgetting. A careful survey should treat the whole circle as one structure and recover what concealment removed.

In tillage, on gentle S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.5m); external fosse (D 0.4m) SW->N. Bank planted with deciduous trees. Fosse filled with water to NW. Interior used as dump for field clearance material and overgrown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
