Mortons and Shannow women called it a fairy fort because the twin earth banks and hidden entrance defied ordinary sense. It is a real ringfort, thirty-seven metres across, with two substantial banks and a fosse between them. Modern scarps and a cut trench mark later interference, while vegetation still chokes the interior. The fairies may be a jest or a warning, but the earthwork remains a deliberate human boundary in Shannow Lower.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 37m) enclosed by two substantial earthen banks with intermediate fosse. Outer face of external bank has been scarped in relatively modern times and a trench cut on its outer side. Original entrance not recognisable. Internal area very overgrown with vegetation.
