What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Clare and Galway are common, but in Limerick this is one of very few. A ringfort is a human home, likely with a wooden hall and byres inside the bank. The fairies took the house and people long ago, leaving only the empty circle behind.

In level pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been truncated on N and E sides so that enclosing element now evident only SE->WNW. This is truncated on E side by N-S field boundary and on N side by enclosure surrounding holy well (LI036-06002-). Surviving section of enclosing element consists of earthen bank (int. H 0.65m; ext. H 1.35m) with an external fosse (D 1.1m; Wth 0.65m) SE->WNW. Surviving interior (28.5m N-S; 27.45m E-W) is level and under pasture which is churned-up in places by tracks of farm machinery.
