Fairy fort in Shanganny, County Kilkenny: an irregular earthen ring about thirty metres across, with a broad low bank, shallow outside ditch, and a widened southern entrance, set on a broad grassy terrace between valley slopes. People may have lived, kept animals, marked territory, or simply shaped the land there before the name changed. The fairies entered later as explanation, taking the ring from human memory and wearing it as their own.

On a broad natural terrace at between the gentle slope of the lower valley side and the steeper upper valley, in rolling grassland. An irregularly shaped area (diam. c. 30m NE-SW) enclosed by low, wide earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.8m) and shallow external fosse (Wth 2-3m; D 0.2m). An entrance (Wth c. 5m) at S appears to the original, though widened. Both the perimeter and much of the interior were heavily overgrown at time of inspection. On the 1947 revision of the OS 6-inch map the bank of the enclosure is only depicted in the SE-NW sectors, elsewhere field boundaries, particularly irregular on the E side, define the N-E-SE sectors.
