Fairy forts are often destroyed when people stop fearing them. In Shandangan West, a circular earthen bank stood on a ridge until October 1993, when excavation opened it and revealed a hidden underground passage. The fort may have been a boundary marker, a seasonal shelter, a burial place, or a warning about what lives beneath ordinary ground. Its destruction did not erase it; it transferred the shape from soil into memory, where the hole remains visible in the story of the place.

In tillage, on E-W ridge. Circular area (diam. 34.5m) enclosed by earthen bank (H 2.2m). Hartnett (1939, 146) recorded external fosse to S and W.
