What is recorded here

You are standing inside a shallow wooden chamber where roof timbers and floor joists still hold the shape of a small house. A narrow stone staircase climbs through earth to an opening above the hill, admitting daylight into a chamber cut through solid rock. The chamber has no visible door, frame or hinge, although a flat stone lies across part of the opening. The room is not a complete chamber in the modern sense: it is a narrow vertical shaft with a roofed upper chamber, built into the hill rather than placed upon it.

On top of a rise with land sloping down to S and W. Circular area (22.5m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks (inner bank: int. H 0.9m, ext. H 0.9m; outer bank: ext. H 1m) to W, N and E, with intervening fosse (D 0.2m); truncated on S side by railway line. Entrance (Wth 2m) to N. Small shed built in interior off-centre to W.
