Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Scrivoge

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and the fairies danced around the fort until midnight. She refused to leave because she wanted to see what lived inside. The cliff edge opened like a door, dropping her through darkness into a chamber lit by blue fire. She returned changed, speaking a language that sounded like rain on stone.
In pasture, on crest of hillock. Circular area (diam. 19.1m) enclosed by heavily overgrown earthen bank (H 0.7m). Circular enclosure (CO126-017002-) 20m to NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
