Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Reechestown

On gradual NE-facing slope, just off crest, in undulating terrain, under pasture. Small roughly circular ringfort (diam. 26.7m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by a round-topped bank (Wth 3.3m crest, 5.1m base; int. H 0.73m; ext. H 1.65m) with a high stone content; flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 2.1m; D 1.52m) and outer bank (Wth 3.55; ext. H 0.5m). The banks are very overgrown with scrub, brambles and nettles. The vegetation is encoaching on the interior which is grass covered. An internal stone revetment is clearly visible on the bank in the N and SE quadrants. The monument is enclosed in the NE and SW quadrants by field boundaries running NW-SE. In the NE quadrant the outer face of the bank has been quarried into destroying the fosse and outer bank. The fosse is wider in the SE quadrant due to cattle erosion and the bank is quite denuded at S. There is an entrance in the E quadrant (Wth 1.4m), the ground 2m E of this has been quarried out.
