Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Reaghan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Reaghan, County Galway: a shallow earth ring, faded but real, on open grassland. People may have lived there, buried goods there, or simply walked past it and called it home. The land has taken most of the shape back, leaving a hint of a circle and a hollow edge. What is missing is not emptiness; it is the part the grass has swallowed.
On a rise in gently rolling grassland. Very poorly preserved subcircular rath (c. 31m N-S; c. 26m E-W) defined by a degraded scarp and external fosse; the latter is visible from S through W to NW. A possible Man-made underground passage (GA117-087----) is associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 18 June 2019
