Magic and mystery surround Rathduane. The fort stands in open fields above the River Blackwater, marking an ancient boundary between the visible world and the hidden realm. Its earthworks still hold the shape of a circle, suggesting human hands built a place where transformation could occur. The land remembers what official history forgets.

In pasture, atop E-W ridge, overlooking River Blackwater to N. Depicted on 1938 OS 6-inch map as circular area (diam. c. 40m) enclosed by bank, with second bank surviving SSE->NW. Levelled apart from double earthen bank SSW->NW with intervening fosse. Inner bank (int. H 1m) and outer bank (ext. H 1.15m) are planted with mature deciduous trees. Interior encroached on by farmyard of Rathduane House; large shed built in SW quadrant. According to local information, Man-made underground passage (9103) in interior.
